Services Offered

SURGERY HOURS

Monday - Friday 0800 - 1800

 

OUT OF HOURS AND EMERGENCIES

NHS 24 covers Scotland and provides a clinical telephone health information, advice and referral service. Outwith normal surgery hours Mon - Fri 0800 - 1800 and Public Holidays patients should contact NHS 24 direct by phoning - 08454 242424. (local rate)

Should you ring the surgery number the answering service will advise you to contact NHS 24 on the above number. NHS 24 Dundee base is at Wallacetown Health Centre, Lyon Street Dundee.

 

HEALTH VISITORS & DISTRICT NURSES

The Health Visitors at Hawkhill are available to see and advise patients in relation to Ante and Postnatal Care, Mothercraft and Child Development, Care of the Elderly and patients with Learning Disabilities. The best time to contact the Health Visitors by telephone (641647) is between 0830 - 1000 and between 1600 - 1700.
The District Nurses are available to provide nursing care for patients who are housebound. Care for these patients is generally arranged by the doctor, nevertheless should you wish to contact the District Nurses telephone 566842 where messages may be left on the answering machine.

 

BABY CLINIC

Health visitors run a baby clinic every Monday. The timings are:-
from 1330 - 1500 immunisations by appointment only.
Drop in Well Baby Clinic 1500 - 1600, no appointment is necessary.
A doctor will also be available for advice and health checks prior to immunisations.

The usual schedule for childhood immunisation is as follows:
2 months - Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis, Polio, HIB and Pneumocaccal.
3 months - Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis, Polio, HIB and Men C
4 months - Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis, Polio, HIB and Men C and Pneumocaccal.
around 12 months - Hib and Men C
around 13 month - Measles/Mumps/Rubella and Pneumocaccal.
4 - 5 years - Booster Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis, MMR and Polio.

 

CHILD HEALTH SURVEILLANCE CLINIC

As part of the routine care of children under five developmental assessments are conducted at 8 weeks, 8 months, 2 years and 3 years 6 months. Child Health Clinic by appointment every Tuesday from 1100 - 1230.

 

ANTENATAL & POSTNATAL CARE

Antenatal care is provided in conjunction with Ninewells Hospital. Those patients receiving antenatal care at Hawkhill will normally be seen at the Midwife run Antenatal Clinic on Tuesdays from 1400 - 1600 or by the doctor during normal surgery times.
After a baby is born it can sometimes take a number of days for hospital correspondence to reach the practice, it is helpful if you can contact the practice to advise us of your situation as soon as you have been discharged home. In the first few weeks following a baby's birth, care is given at home by the Midwife and the Health Visitor and all mothers are offered a 6 week postnatal checkup and family planning advice from their doctor. Please register baby with the Practice as soon as possible.

 

MINOR SURGERY

Certain minor surgery procedures are performed (under local anaesthetic) at a weekly Friday clinic. Appointments are arranged by your normal doctor.

 

CONTRACEPTIVE SERVICES

A full range of contraceptive services and advice is provided at Hawkhill including the fitting of IUDs (coils), Caps and any new contraceptive treatments. Depending on the type of treatment required you may prefer to be seen by a female doctor, please be sure to advise the reception staff if this is the case so that an appropriate appointment can be arranged.

 

PRACTICE PHARMASIST

Our Practice Pharmacist assists the Doctors in medicines choice and other related issues. She is also available for medication review and to provide information and advice on prescribed items.
